Marika Pentikainen feels that the important events that happen in a person's life tell her so much about how people care about each other, how they care about themselves, and what things feel like to them at any given moment. The artist is interested in all of these little moments, for example when people are face-to-face and silent, and how they present themselves to each other in different situations. She is interested in the gaze of living beings and the thoughts behind that gaze. She tries to capture those thoughts using photography, and bringing out emotions and vulnerability are important in her work. “I want to bring out things that the subject doesn't know how to dig out of themselves, “she says. “I feel that there is always some kind of mentally stimulating message that subconsciously pulses out from deep inside of me in my work.”
